Obama’s Weekly Address: Job Growth 8-6-2011
This week, congress reached an agreement thats going to allow us make some progress in reducing our nations budget deficit. Raising the Debt Ceiling is going to reduce our budget
deficit? How? And through this compromise both parties are going to have to work together on a larger plan to get our nations finances in order. That’s Important! We’ve got to be sure
that Washington lives within its means, just like families do. Really, and when has Washington lived within its means. We are presently borrowing 40 cents on a dollar. In the long term,
the health of our economy depends upon it. I agree with this, our economy does depend on Washington living within its means. But, in the short term, our urgent mission has to be
getting this economy growing faster and creating more jobs. And how do you intend on doing this Mr. President. That’s what’s on people’s minds. That’s what matters to families in this
country. And the fact is, this has been a tumultuous year for the economy. Yes it has been. Not as bad as Katrina or 9-11 though. We weathered the Arab Springs effect on Oil and Gas
prices. Arab Spring, the event to spread democracy. The event you encouraged. Did it work out as you planned? The Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami effects on supply chains. The
economic situation in Europe, Their socialistic ideals, like universal health care and big pensions. The same plans you have for America? and in Washington, there was a contentious
debate over our nations budget that nearly dragged our country into financial crisis. (Notice the pause in the recording of the video, maybe his teleprompter malfunctioned) That crisis
that you warned about. That we would lose our AAA rating. According to the S&P, the issue was the deficit spending not raising the debt limit. I guess we showed them wrong.
So our job right now has to be doing whatever we can to help folks find work, to help create the climate where businesses can put up that job listing, where incomes are rising again for
people. Smaller government with less Government Regulation. Is he a Tea Partier? We’ve got to rebuild this economy and sense of security were middle class families have felt
slipping away for years. And while debts and reductions has to be a part of our economic strategy, it’s not the only thing we have to do. We need Democrats and Republicans to work
together to help grow this economy. We’ve got to put politics aside to get some things done. That’s what the American people expect from us. There are a number of steps congress can
take right away when they return in September. (Its August 6th, you are kidding right. Nice vacation) We need to extend tax cuts for working and middle class families so you have more
money in your pay checks next year. Extend tax cuts. Extend is just another word for no tax increase which I agree with. Nice try implying we will have more money. Not more just the
same. That would help millions of people to make ends meet. And that extra money for expenses means businesses will have more customers and will be in a better position to hire.
Again, what extra money.
Yesterday I proposed a new tax credit for companies that hire veterans who are looking for work after serving their country. Mr President, do yo think tax credits will really result in more
job opportunities. I just had a brain storm, give all businesses tax credits. We’ve got a lot of honorable and skilled people returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and companies that could
benefit from their abilities. Let’s put them together. We need to make sure that millions of workers who are still pounding the pavement, looking for jobs, are not denied unemployment
benefits to carry them through the hard times. So whats next after 99 weeks of unemployment to get them through the hard times? Maybe just make it a round number. How about 200
weeks? We’ve got to cut red tape that stops to many inventors and entrepreneurs from quickly turning new ideas into thriving businesses, which holds back our whole economy. It’s time
congress finally passed a set of trade deals that would help displace Websters Dictionary definition of displace: to remove from the usual or proper place; specifically: to expel or force
to flee from home or homeland workers looking for new jobs and would allow our business to sell more products in countries in Asia and South America. (that's sounds like another
NAFTA) Products stamped with 3 words. Made in America. And we ought to give more opportunities to all those construction workers who lost their jobs when the housing boom went
bust. We could put them to work right now (Shovel ready jobs, where have I heard of that before. Oh Yeah, it was the stimulus plan. If at first you don't succeed try, try again! How about
with someone else's money besides tax payers money) by giving loans to companies that want to repair our roads and bridges and airports. Loans? LOANS? To fix public roads,
bridges, and airports. What kind of person would get a loan to fix the government streets. Helping to rebuild America. Those are a few common sense steps that would help the
economy. Lets do it. It seems to have been working well over the last 2 1/2 years. And these are ideas that have been supported by both Democrats and Republicans in the past. Its
gotta be good if they both have supported it in the past both Dems and Rino's. So I am going to keep on calling on both parties in congress to put aside their differences and send these
bills to my desk so I can sign them right away. After all, both parties share power. Yep, Republicans control 1/3 of Washington Both parties share responsibility for our progress. I think
what you are really saying is you want the Republicans to take partial credit for the last 2 1/2 years of miserable economic policies Moving our economy and our country forward is not a
Democratic or Republican responsibility. It is our responsibility as Americans. Now it's America's responsibility. If thats true, I say lets vote on Universal Health Care. That’s the spirit we
need in Washington right now. That’s how we will get this economy growing faster and reach a brighter day. OK, so thats how Obama is going to get the economy going. Its simple isn't it.
